Process Engineer


DM3D Technology is a leader in laser additive manufacturing with over 29 patents. Our capabilities include state-of-the-art multi-axis deposition equipment, proprietary software and trade secrets which involve extensive material, process knowledge and proprietary recipes. One key advantage of our patented Direct Metal Deposition (DMD) technology is its ability to fabricate bi-metallic and multi-metallic components including cermets and superalloys. Our technology is used in commercial applications involving hardfacing for wear/corrosion solutions, remanufacturing and restoration solutions and free form fabrications. DM3D Technology offers product development, runs production parts and/or builds customized production ready equipment for its customers. Job Summary / Scope


The successful candidate will provide support and continual improvement direction for the Direct Metal Deposition (DMD) process at DM3D’s facility in Auburn Hills. This process engineer will be responsible for the following.



1.   Drive improvement initiatives within the department to increase process and work efficiency

2.   Provide shop floor personnel with manufacturing/troubleshooting assistance and expertise through regular contact with supervision

3.   Interface with Supervisors, Operators and Customers to resolve technical problems

4.   Arrange demonstrations of DMD systems and applications capabilities, for customer visits    

5.   CAD/CAM design and toolpathing for in-house jobs.

6.   Assist in R&D programs related to process development area

7.   DMD system installation, customer training and field support as needed

8.   Operation of Robot or CNC based DMD systems involving fixtures, alignment, set up and part programming on the machine to process customer and/or test parts as per job instructions

9.   Any other relevant task as directed by the supervisor


Required Qualifications:

1.   Bachelor of Science in engineering (Mechanical)

2.   Industry experience

3.   Proficiency with MS office

4.   Must be field or "hands on" oriented and must have ability to work without supervision


Desired Qualifications:

1.   Masters of Science in engineering/PhD (Mechanical)

2.   Working experience with laser material processing systems, preferably laser cladding / welding on CNC or Robot platform

3.   Knowledge of CAD/CAM software

4.   Experience with solid modeling, AutoCAD, statistical tools is desirable and

5.   Ability to travel (<10%)

6.   Excellent communication skills
